Illinois State is currently operating under normal conditions.
There are no Illinois State Emergency Alerts at this time.

In the event of an emergency, the Illinois State University homepage will be used to post Illinois State emergency alerts and additional information, if available. This information may alert you to an emergency situation, ask you to take action, or both. Information about tornado warnings will also be sent as an Illinois State Emergency Alert.

Fire

In case of a fire, the observer should immediately contact the Illinois State University Police Department by dialing "911." Calls from campus phones are routed to the Illinois State University Police Department (ISUPD), where a dispatcher is on duty 24 hours a day. The dispatcher will contact the Normal Fire Department for assistance. Note: If calling from a cell phone or off campus phone, your call will be routed to Metcom, a county wide dispatch center. Please advise the operator that the call is an ISU campus emergency.

Be Prepared

Please take the following steps so that you are prepared before an emergency occurs:

  1. Be familiar with emergency reporting procedures on campus.
    ALL emergencies are to be reported to Illinois State University Police Department by dialing 911. Dialing 911 on a cell-phone, even those registered outside the local 309 area code, will connect to local emergency authorities. Those reporting the emergency should be prepared to provide the following information:
    • Your name
    • Nature of the emergency
    • Location of the emergency or victim or suspect or suspicious activity
    • The phone number that you are calling from
    • Stay on the line until the police dispatcher says you can hang up.

Emergency Notification

Faculty staff and students will automatically receive alerts to their official Illinois State University e-mail account (YourUlid@ilstu.edu).

You are also encouraged to provide the following additional points of contact for emergency alerts to increase your likelihood of receiving these critical messages in the event of an emergency. To add or update your emergency contact points, sign in to the iCampus Portal. Your information will be stored securely, and will only be used for ISU Emergency Alerts and scheduled system tests. Emergency Alerts will be sent to the contact points you designate in iCampus, in the order listed below until you confirm that you have received the alert.

Mobile Phone.

This is the preferred contact, being the most reliable in an emergency situation. Only valid 10-digit phone numbers will be accepted. Checking the “update local phone number” will also update your local contact information with the University.

Office/Desk phone (for faculty and staff) or Land-Line phone (for students)

For faculty and staff: This contact is for the actual land-line where you are likely to be reached during work hours. Typically this is your desk phone number. Only valid 10-digit phone numbers will be accepted.

For students: You may not have mobile coverage at home or may turn off your mobile phone at night. Only valid 10-digit phone numbers will be accepted.

Please review your Emergency Alerts contact information periodically, and remember to update your points of contact as they change.
